A Colombian football supporter was killed and five other people were injured in clashes between rival fan groups after a match in the northern city of Cucuta, police said Wednesday.

The skirmishes between fans of Cucuta Deportivo and their arch-rivals Atletico Bucaramanga took place outside the stadium following Tuesday's local league match, which ended in a 2-2 draw.

The deceased fan was stabbed, a Cucuta police commander said in a statement.

Local media reported that the victim was a supporter of Atletico Bucaramanga.

Three police officers were among the injured, a police source told AFP.

Bucaramanga supporters had been barred from the stadium to prevent disturbances, as is common practise for visiting fans in Colombia.

Violence in Colombian football has left at least 150 fans dead since 2008, according to independent investigations.

There are no official figures on the issue.

In December, fans from rival teams in the city of Medellin clashed in the stands and on the field during Colombia's cup final, resulting in 59 injuries.
